Reminder: Seasons Change.
On this gorgeous +27C April day, it’s hard to believe that we had a huge snowstorm a few short weeks ago. That’s because…
Seasons change.
Maybe someone needs to hear this. If your life feels like a long cold winter that will never end, please know, winter always turns to spring, and spring turns to summer.
Seasons change.
One of the most important gifts we can give to ourselves is to recognize the season we are in. All too often we desperately want the season to change, and we miss what the season is about.
When we know what season we are in, we know what to do. We can respond in a way to get the most out of the season. And when we understand the season, we have the right expectation which keeps discouragement away.
Years ago, when my babies woke at 3 am, I had to remind myself that this is a season with newborns. I remember spending hours staring into their little faces while I rocked them to sleep and pondered where life would take them. Did I love being up at 3 am? Absolutely not!! But 30-some-years-later, my heart floods with warmth as I recall those precious 3 am mornings…a season that is long gone but I dearly cherish.
When my dad was dying, I tried to visit as much as I could. We set up the Christmas tree together, went out in the boat one last time, sang his old favourite songs and talked about heaven. It was a season of death and despite the sadness, we found a way to make it meaningful.
It’s comforting to know that God is with us in all seasons and especially the hard ones. In winter, at 3 am and through seasons of loss or death. He is an ever-present help in times of trouble. And although we may not know how, in His time and in His way, He can bring beauty to every season.
Thinking of you today.
